Where It All Began
Our Story
Coming from a long tradition of Soul Food cooks, I’ve always felt a deep connection to my family’s culinary traditions, striving to represent them authentically, just as I was taught.
Upon my move to Arizona, I had the privilege of renting a room from a talented Brazilian chef. Her mastery in crafting traditional dishes, like the black bean stew Feijoada, resonated with me. As she shared stories behind each dish and their significance in her family, I couldn’t help but be reminded of my own family’s roots. Both cuisines while distinct, shared the common thread of offering more than just meals — they embodied the essence of our cultures.
With over 30 years of experience in restaurant operations, including 13 years as the General Manager of Tommy Bahama Restaurant & Bar at Kierland Commons, I realized that it was time to pursue my true passion.
Inspired by the belief that the flavors and traditions of these two cultures could create a remarkable menu, I reconnected with my friend & Brazilian chef, after many years. Together, we developed Fogo & Soul, the Fusion of Authentic Southern Brazilian BBQ and Down-Home Soul Food.
In March 2022, we proudly launched Fogo & soul. In that year, Fogo & Soul earned recognition, including awards such as “Best Ethnic Food” and “Best Overall Food Truck” at FOODSTOCK 2022. At the 2023 Knix BBQ & Beer Festival, we were honored with accolades for “Best Chicken” and “Best Sausage,” while FOODSTOCK 2023 bestowed upon us the titles of “Top Notch Customer Service” and for the second time, “Best Overall Food Truck.”
What sets up apart is our commitment to doing something different, and we’re thrilled to see that people appreciate it. Fogo & Soul is not just a food truck – it’s an experience.
